3 Mobile increases wireless network coverage to 96% with new roaming 3G network
Wireless internet provider 3 Mobile has launched a new 3G mobile broadband network that will increase Three’s network coverage to 96% of the Australian population.
3 Mobile has increased it’s roaming capacity on it’s current wireless broadband network, which will allow customers in remote areas and rural towns in Australia to receive broadband internet on their mobile devices.This announcement for 3 Mobile is very significant as it now places them on par with Optus Mobiles network coverage – both now reaching 96 percent of the Australian population.
Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook were a primary driver for 3 Mobile to expand it’s network, as social networking has become a big part of many Australians everyday lives, according to 3’s director of sales, marketing and product Noel Hamill.
3’s new roaming rates will be 50 cents/megabyte (MB) which is less than a third of the original rate (previously $1.65/MB for data). “Postpaid casual users will pay $2/MB (matching the non-roaming rate), and the “data allowance included in Prepaid Mobile Broadband $7.50 Roaming Packs will increase from 4MB to 15MB.” according to Whirlpool and a 3 staff memo.
