Number of Wireless Internet connections doubled in Australia

A recent news article Australian Internet users going Wireless on News.com.au pointed out statistics from a recent Australian Bureau of Statistics research report that “In the first six months of 2008, wireless internet connections jumped from 433,000 to 809,000.”

This is a significant increase in the number of Wireless users in Australia, with the number of connections almost doubling for the period. Another interesting fact noted in the article was that “14 per cent of Australians who have internet connections are using wireless services to surf, email and download.”

These are very positive statistics for the mobile broadband industry and add to other positive news, such as the recently announced improved speeds on Telstra’s NextG’s wireless national broadband network, making the NextG network the world’s fastest mobile broadband network.
