Wireless Broadband prices plunge by over 65%

High competition in the mobile broadband industry has resulted in a 65% price drop since 2006 in both the setup costs and monthly plan costs from Australian wireless internet providers.

With the release of HSPDA technolog, there has been a dramatic reduction in mobile broadband prices according to the Venture Consulting/IIA Broadband Index.

“Lower wireless broadband pricing will encourage entry level consumers to explore wireless alternatives. It will also be attractive to businesses users who will attracted to the added advantages of mobility,” said Peter Coroneos – IIA’s chief executive.

The IIA report provided following key highlights:

• Mobile broadband download limits are steadling increasing, with the average download monthly allowance cap for fixed wireless mobile broadband plans increasing from 10.1 GB/month in Q1 ’07 to 13.1 GB/month today
• Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) are focusing less on their lower speed wireless internet plans and are instead increasing their faster mobile broadband plan choices for their customers.
